SEMPA 360
2025 QUIZ BOWL
RULES AND FORMAT
Format
-
- Four teams, each with 6 contestants will compete in a Family Feud inspired friendly competition
- All survey responses will be obtained from a widely distributed survey representing a national sample population with emergency medicine experience
- All teams will have one former SEMPA president as a guest contestant
- Teams will be made up of trainees from different programs to encourage team building, networking, and friendly socializing
- Round One will pair Team 1 vs Team 2
- Round Two will pair Team 3 vs Team 4
- Team contestants and order of play will be determined by random selection and announced ahead of the competition
- Rounds One and Two will have up to three Family Feud style questions presented to contestants
- One contestant from each team will come to the podium and face off on the first question. The contestant who buzzes in first gets to provide the first answer. If that answer is the number 1 survey response, their team gets control of the question. If not, the opposing contestant gets to try and provide a higher-ranking response to earn control for their team.
- If neither participant provides a response on the game board, the game control will go to the team that buzzed in first.
- The team who wins control of the question provides more responses, one at a time. Team members are not permitted to consult with one another during this part of the game. If a given answer is not one of the most popular, the team gets a strike. If the team can guess all of the most popular answers on the board before getting three strikes, they win the round.
- If a team ends up with three strikes, control of the round goes to the opposing team. That team then has one chance to come up with one of the remaining responses on the board to win the question. If they fail, the other team gets the remaining points and wins the question.
- First team to win two of the three questions in Round 1 and Round 2 advance to the Final Round
- Final Round will have five total Family Feud “Fast Money” style questions. One Team will remain in the room while the other Team is brought to a secluded room. The participating team must provide a response to each survey question. They should try to guess the most popular response. One team member goes at a time. Team members can pass the opportunity to answer to the next team member. Teams have 30 seconds to answer all five questions. Then, the teams switch and the next team goes through the same process and the other team is placed in a secluded room.
- The team whose responses in the Final Round awards them the highest point total based on survey responses will win the game.
